During my stay on Bandabou, the quiet side of the island of Curacao in the summer of 2022, I passed a small white house. Two young girls sat in front of the house. Sisters. Twins. They were my neighbours. I became curious. Who are they? What do they do? I asked them to be portrayed and became captivated by the intimate bond between the sisters. A bond that touched on my own desire for sisterly love. In them I saw the power of each other's support during an important and formative period in life.

REYLUSKA & REYNUSKA is a series about the 16-year old twins, the transition from young girls to young adults and the associated playfulness, intimacy and boredom. The setting is a matriarchal society in which women have been valued for centuries for their strength, resilience and resourcefulness and in which their contribution to society is celebrated.
